Poultry Farm, Herefordshire–Powys Border

Solar PV & Battery Storage Installation

Overview:

A poultry farm located on the Herefordshire–Powys border approached MJS Energy with the goal of reducing rising electricity costs associated with daily operations. With significant energy demand across both daytime and nighttime usage, the site required a solution that could deliverlong-term savings and improved energy efficiency.

Initial Assessment & Feasibility Study:

MJS Energy carried out a full feasibility study of the site, analysing the farm’s electricity consumption patterns.
This allowed us to design a system tailored specifically to the client’s needs, ensuring optimal performance and return on investment.

System Design & Installation

Based on the findings, we installed a high-capacity solar PV and battery storage system:

  • Inverter: 50kW Sunsynk Hybrid Inverter
  • Solar Array: 152 × 430W panels, delivering a total of 65kWp
  • Mounting: Roof-mounted system across existing farm structures Battery Storage: Sunsynk 61.44kWh
  • Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

The solar array generates substantial power during daylight hours, significantly offsetting the farm’s electricity usage. The integrated battery system stores excess energy, which is then used to support the site’s demand overnight.

Outcome

The system now enables the poultry farm to reduce reliance on grid electricity, lowering operational costs while improving energy independence. The addition of battery storage ensures that solar energy is utilised efficiently, even outside of daylight hours.

Conclusion:

This project demonstrates how a well-designed solar PV and battery storage system can deliver measurable cost savings and long-term sustainability for agricultural operations with high energy demands.
